Dubai traffic fines: how to check, pay and what they cost1
Check a Dubai traffic fine on Dubai Police or RTA using your plate number, and pay on the same screen. Speeding by more than 60 km/h costs AED 2,000, 12 black points and a 30-day vehicle confiscation. More than 80 km/h costs AED 3,000, 23 points and 60 days. If you intend to object, do not pay first — payment is treated as acceptance.3

Where do you check a Dubai traffic fine?5
Fines are held by the authority that issued them. Dubai Police holds moving violations; RTA holds parking and Salik. Both can show lines on the same traffic file, so a clean screen on one app is not a clean file.

How to check a Dubai fine, step by step6
- Open Dubai Police fine payment or the Dubai Police app.
- Choose a search key: plate (source, code and number), traffic file number, driving licence, Emirates ID or ticket number.
- Read the date, location, article, amount and black points on each line.
- Repeat on RTA Check & Pay if you also have parking or Salik charges.
- If you drive in other emirates, check MOI e-services as well.
How do you pay a Dubai traffic fine?
- Stop if you intend to object. Paying is treated as accepting the violation. See objecting to a fine below.7
- Select the fine on Dubai Police, RTA Check & Pay or DubaiNow.
- Pay by card or UAE PASS. Cash is accepted at Smart Police Stations and kiosks, and 901 can take a card by phone.
- Save the receipt. You will need it when you renew the mulkiya.
Confirm the live amount on the portal before you pay. Discount campaigns change what is due, not the offence itself.
What does speeding cost in Dubai?
These are the amounts Dubai Police publish for light vehicles under Ministerial Resolution 178 of 2017. Federal Decree-Law No. 14 of 2024 came into force on 29 March 2025 and moves the cash schedule to a future Cabinet resolution; until that new table is published, the 2017 amounts stand.8

Dubai Police enforced three of these rows heavily in June 2026: 4,504 hard-shoulder overtaking fines in the year to 5 June, and the endangering-lives row applied after a viral stunt video on 12 June. The amounts did not change — enforcement did.
The AED 50,000 figure is not a speeding fine9
Amounts of AED 10,000, AED 50,000 and AED 100,000 appear in Dubai coverage. These are release fees to unlock a seized vehicle under Dubai Decree No. 30 of 2023, charged on top of the federal ticket. They are not the ticket itself.
Why Dubai fines confuse people, and what is actually true18
Almost every argument about Dubai traffic fines comes from the same eight places. Each one has a real reason behind it. Here is why the system looks the way it does, what people get wrong, and what is actually the case.
1. Two completely different penalties are both called a "fine"
Why it is like this. Federal Decree-Law No. 14 of 2024 writes the serious criminal penalties into the law itself. The everyday ticket amounts sit in a separate administrative schedule.
What people get wrong. Headlines saying "fines up to Dh200,000" get read as speeding tickets.
How it actually is. The Dh200,000 ceiling is the maximum court penalty for driving under the influence of narcotics, and it comes with a prison term. Alcohol runs Dh20,000 to Dh100,000. Hit-and-run runs Dh50,000 to Dh100,000. Jaywalking that causes an accident is Dh5,000 to Dh10,000. A camera ticket is AED 300 to AED 3,000 and is issued by a machine, not a judge. The two never meet.
2. The law changed. The prices did not.19
Why it is like this. Federal Decree-Law 14 of 2024 came into force on 29 March 2025 and moved the administrative fine table out of the law and into a future Cabinet resolution.
What people get wrong. Every "UAE traffic fines 2026" list online implies new 2026 amounts.
How it actually is. As at 1 September 2026 no Cabinet resolution setting a new administrative fine table has been published. The amounts you actually pay are still the 2017 schedule under Ministerial Resolution 178. A new traffic law does not mean new ticket prices, and any page quoting "new 2026 fines" is quoting a table that has not been issued.
3. The AED 50,000 figure is not a ticket
Why it is like this. Federal law sets the ticket. Dubai adds its own local charge to release a seized vehicle under Decree No. 30 of 2023.
What people get wrong. "There is an AED 50,000 fine for jumping a red light in Dubai."
How it actually is. The red-light ticket is AED 1,000. The AED 10,000, AED 50,000 and AED 100,000 figures are release fees to get the car back out of the impound yard, charged on top of the ticket, and only where the committee orders seizure.
4. One car, two authorities
Why it is like this. Dubai Police enforce moving violations. RTA runs parking and Salik. They are separate organisations with separate systems.
What people get wrong. A clean screen on one app means a clean record.
How it actually is. Both can hold lines against the same plate. You have to check Dubai Police and RTA. DubaiNow shows both in one list, which helps you pay but does not make them one file.
5. The cash and the points run on separate clocks
Why it is like this. The fine is a debt. The black points are a penalty on your licence. Different systems, different purposes.
What people get wrong. Paying the fine clears the points.
How it actually is. It does not. The money clears; the points sit on the licence for twelve months. And the English and Arabic texts of the 2017 resolution do not agree on whether those twelve months start at the violation or at the payment, so ask Dubai Police which applies to your file.
6. Salik is not a traffic fine
Why it is like this. Salik is a road toll run by a separate company. Its penalty is for an unfunded account, not for how you drove.
What people get wrong. DubaiNow's "Pay All Fines" screen lists Salik next to police violations, so people assume clearing one clears the other.
How it actually is. A Salik insufficient-funds penalty is AED 50 after five working days, capped at AED 10,000 per vehicle a year. Paying it does nothing to a speeding ticket. It carries no black points.
7. Confiscation, seizure and towing are three different things
Why it is like this. Three different rules, written at different times, all resulting in you not having your car.
What people get wrong. All three get called "impounded".
How it actually is:

8. "Why did I get two fines in one minute?"
Why it is like this. Dubai's cameras are automated and apply the rule as written, with no officer discretion at the roadside.
What people get wrong. That the volume of tickets means the system is set to maximise revenue.
How it actually is. Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police, told Emarat Al Youm in February 2026 that recorded violations would roughly double if the smart camera network were used to its full capacity, and that it is deliberately not, as a form of leniency. A driver using a phone across several camera zones is recorded repeatedly but issued a single fine. Average-speed enforcement between two points, standard in many countries, has been trialled in Dubai and deliberately not implemented — to avoid confusing drivers. If a specific ticket looks wrong, contest it on the app rather than paying it.
How do you object to a Dubai fine?10
File the objection before you pay, on Dubai Public Prosecution under "Request to Object a Traffic Fine". The explanation must be written in Arabic or the request is rejected. Allow roughly ten working days; if it is accepted, the matter goes to Traffic Court. Parking and Salik objections go to RTA on 800 9090.
Can you pay Dubai fines in instalments?11
Yes, for Dubai Police fines totalling at least AED 3,000. Apply on dubaipolice.gov.ae and choose Direct Debit Instalments. Plans are interest-free and run over 3, 6 or 12 months, with some banks offering a 9-month option. Fines issued in other emirates are not eligible. Participating banks change, so confirm the tenor the portal shows you on the day and check with your own bank. Reported by Gulf News and Emirates 247, August 2026.
What happens if you do not pay?12
Three things, in escalating order.
- You cannot renew the mulkiya. Registration requires you to pay all fines and hold valid cover from an authorised insurer (u.ae, registering vehicles). One unpaid line on the plate stops the transaction.
- Your Dubai visa file can be blocked. Since July 2025, GDRFA Dubai links visa renewal, cancellation and change of status to unpaid Dubai Police and plate fines (The National). This is a visa-file block, not an automatic airport ban on a single unpaid ticket.
- The vehicle can be seized. Under Decree No. 30 of 2023, Dubai Police may seize a vehicle carrying more than AED 6,000 in unpaid fines. Owners are contacted first, and release follows payment.
Does paying the fine remove the black points?13
No. The cash and the points are two separate lines. Paying clears the money; the points stay on the licence and come off on their own twelve-month clock. Dubai Police can confirm which date starts that clock on your file, because the English and Arabic texts of the 2017 resolution differ on whether it runs from the violation or from the payment. Salik is not a traffic fine
A Salik insufficient-funds penalty is AED 50 after five working days, capped at AED 10,000 per vehicle per year. It is an RTA toll penalty, not a police violation, and paying it does not clear a speeding ticket — even though DubaiNow lists both together.
What fines mean for your car insurance14
Unpaid fines block the mulkiya, and the mulkiya requires valid cover from an authorised insurer. That is the point where fines and insurance actually meet.
